Introduction to Photography
Day & Time: Thursdays, 2:00pm-3:30pm
Grades: 7-12
Teacher: Michelle Mixa
Cost: $210 ($175/semester + $35 material fee)
.5 HS Credit: Fall Semester (Art)
Students learn photography by taking photos. This project-based class introduces the fundamentals of photography through hands-on practice, helping students develop both technical skills and their own creative style.
Topics include camera settings (manual mode, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture), lighting, composition, and visual storytelling. Students will explore different types of photography, including portraiture, while also learning from well-known photographers.
Each week, students complete a photo project to apply what they’ve learned, building a portfolio over the semester.
High school students have the option to complete this in full to earn ½ credit.
Parents stay connected through clear weekly expectations and project guidance.
Requirements: DSLR camera and access to a device for uploading images
Material Fee: Includes workbook, binder, props, and printed photographs
